Holistic Addiction Treatment for Substance Abuse Disorders

While medical and traditional approaches will always have a place in addiction recovery, we tailor-fit our addiction treatment programs to the unique addiction and spiritual needs of our patients.

In conjunction with the calm, beautiful grounds that our non-12 step rehab center provides, we give our patients a way to improve their entire mindset, not simply clean up an addiction as a temporary fix.

What Is Holistic Addiction Treatment?

Holistic addiction treatment is the process of addressing substance abuse disorders in the mind, body, and spirit. With more focus on experiential therapy and healing activities, such as guided meditation or yoga, holistic treatment allows for a deeper level of self-awareness than is provided at traditional 12-Step rehab centers.

The Importance of Experiential Therapy in Holistic Rehab

Experiential therapy is central to Ranch Creek Recovery’s holistic approach to alcohol and drug rehab. Utilizing holistic addiction treatment allows us to provide a successful alternative to traditional 12-Step programs used at most other drug addiction treatment centers.

Various activities, listed below, provide opportunities for our patients to improve physical fitness, develop self-awareness and self-acceptance, and grow as people during their stay at our holistic recovery center.

Holistic Treatments and Therapies We Offer

Equine Therapy for holistic Addiction Treatment

Equine therapy is a type of addiction therapy that allows for emotional understanding and a calming experience for our patients. Well-established at various mental health, corrections, and holistic depression treatment centers, the power and serenity of our well-trained animals can be a transforming presence during holistic drug treatment.

Fitness Classes for holistic Addiction Treatment

Physical fitness is an important part of a balanced life, and has many benefits both on a mental and a physical level. However, addiction can take a toll on drug and alcohol users, leaving the body less capable of healing, and slowing the recovery process. This holistic therapy offers nutritional and exercise programs that allow our patients to feel better about themselves and to heal more quickly.

Amino Acid Therapy for holistic Addiction Treatment

A cornerstone of modern holistic drug detox, amino acid therapy addresses the imbalance caused by drug and alcohol abuse during the withdrawal phase by supplementing serotonin (which is central to addiction) and other nutritional standards in the body.

Yoga for holistic Addiction Treatment

Perhaps the most popular and longest-established form of experiential therapy at most holistic addiction treatment centers, yoga is a centuries-old form of exercise that incorporates body awareness and meditation. The lessons learned through performing yoga at our holistic therapy center are also extraordinarily useful during aftercare.

Guided Meditation for Addiction Recovery

Related to yoga and often performed in concert, guided meditation differs slightly from the standard form of addiction therapy where patients are guided by our experienced staff to focus on self-acceptance and positivity. These concepts are key to successful recovery.

Sound Healing Therapy for Addiction Treatment

By attuning the body’s natural vibrations and our natural predilection towards music, gong therapy is a wonderful tool used in our holistic treatment program for addiction. Used in conjunction with our other serenity-building and positive recovery techniques, gong sounds therapy has helped countless patients achieve sobriety.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Holistic Treatment?

For most people, holistic practices provide an effective addition to treatment for mental health disorders and evidence-based treatments for addiction. Holistic therapy takes an individualized approach that considers the whole person and their needs when making a plan for a healthy lifestyle. You can use a combination of such treatments to manage stress and promote well-being as a supplement to conventional treatment for mental health disorders, substance use disorder or a dual diagnosis.

For example, nutritional therapy can be used to help heal the body from the effects of addiction. This addiction therapy improves the ability to focus on lasting addiction recovery. Nutritional therapy is especially helpful when combined with mental health counseling, relaxation techniques and other holistic therapies.

What Addictions Can Holistic Treatment Be Used For?

Holistic treatment programs can be used for any type of addiction. Holistic therapies may be right for any addiction, but the success of these programs does depend on the individual. Some people may suffer from addiction issues that lead them to abuse one or more substances, and holistic approaches can help people who have a dual diagnosis due to addiction and mental health problems.

Some of the most common addictions that can be treated with holistic addiction therapy include the following:

Addressing the Mind and Body

Traditional treatment methods don’t always allow people to connect with their true inner power. It’s important for those recovering from an addiction to address the root causes of their dependence and learn how to care for their physical and mental health at the same time. Activities such as group therapy, meditation, relaxation and exercise can boost self-confidence, giving people the strength to stay sober amid social pressure.

Changes to diet and lifestyle can also help someone’s long term recovery because those dietary changes can be as effective as a medical detox and reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms. Learning how to take care of your physical health ensures a lasting recovery.

If you’re suffering from mental health issues that drive your addiction, a holistic approach can also help you learn ways to cope with anxiety or depression in a healthy way and know when to seek emotional support. Some people may need to overcome past trauma before they can move on to a happy life, and holistic psychotherapy offers a more empathetic approach than more standard therapies.

How Holistic Treatment Is Different From a 12-Step Program

The 12-step program is rooted in a book published in 1939 that was a road map many struggling addicts have followed for decades. New evidence has caused a shift in the way rehab centers approach addictions and help people recover. Some of the key issues with a 12-step program include the following:

Assumption of Powerlessness

Twelve-step programs teach people that the reason they’re struggling with an addiction is due to moral defects and falling away from a higher power. The key takeaway is that people can’t control whether they remain sober or if they enjoy a happy and prosperous life.

Lack of Mental Health Care

Mental health and trauma are often linked to addictions, and 12-step programs ignore the impact of mental health on dependency and behaviors. By ignoring mental health concerns, these programs don’t help patients address the core causes of their addictions so they can succeed in the future.

Religious Undertones

Whether you’re a spiritual person or not should have no weight on your ability to overcome an addiction, but 12-step programs force those seeking help to submit to a higher power. While spirituality can help some people, it’s not the answer for everyone. Holistic approaches focus on your personal beliefs without judgment or persuasion.

Reliance on Non-Professionals

Holistic approaches are backed by medical professionals and psychotherapists, while 12-step programs are managed primarily by volunteers. When addressing an issue that has life-changing consequences, it’s important to place yourself in the care of people who understand why addiction occurs and how to treat it with an evidence-based approach.

Lack of Scientific Research

Twelve-step programs teach that you can overcome an addiction by sheer willpower rather than by understanding how brain chemistry works. Science-based approaches allow therapists to help you train yourself to develop new habits and behaviors that reduce your chances of going into relapse.

Statistics have shown that people who enter a 12-step program often relapse and fall back into their addiction. Each time they must repeat this cycle, they feel less hopeful for their future and may lose their self-esteem because they think they’re just wired differently than everyone else in the world.

Substance abuse can rewire your brain, but the good news is that there are ways you can train your brain to use coping mechanisms such as relaxation, meditation, exercise and breathing to overcome the need to use drugs or alcohol. An addiction therapy that works for someone else may not be right for you, so it’s important to find a treatment program that pays attention to individuals’ needs and not a strict set of principles.

Where to Find Holistic Substance Abuse Treatment

holistic treatment in California

Quite a few addiction treatment centers in California offer holistic approaches to recovery, but it’s important to find a provider whose approach is in alignment with your beliefs and personal needs. You may be best served by working with someone who specializes in helping people find addiction treatment centers that offer the types of programs you’re looking for, but you can also review each provider’s website to see if all the services you’re looking for are offered.

Ranch Creek Recovery offers case management and continues to work with you long after you leave rehab. Access to aftercare resources is important, especially if you find yourself struggling to stay sober in the future. When reviewing treatment centers, consider whether the program is covered by your insurance company, if financing is available and if the treatment provider is accredited.

To ensure you’re getting the full benefit of treatment, also look for centers that have a large staff-to-client ratio. We employ two staff members for each patient in our programs to make sure our clients receive the compassionate care and attention to individual needs they deserve. We’re also able to help you find lenders that can finance the cost of your stay so you don’t need to worry about how you’re going to afford treatment.

Staff: 4.5/5Owner, Director, therapists, nurses, counselors, and support staff are all really great. I had no issues with anyone in particular. They are all there to help you however they can. I found that everyone advocated for my well being, were available when I needed them, and did their best to support me, check in on me, and make sure I was happy and comfortable.(why not 5/5? They have had a bunch of turnover and need to update their website with their newer staff members and qualifications. Additionally the Doctors they partner with were not as thorough as I would have wanted, and were kind of pushy with medications)Program: 4/5Small groups for the win! You get a lot of attention if you need it. This is a Holistic approach rehab. They do not focus on any 12 step programs. You have daily classes with different counselors, focusing on the science behind addiction, anger management, talk therapy, art therapy, equine therapy, nutrition, and much more. You have one-on-one sessions twice a week with a Licensed Therapist, and you have access to a gym daily, with a yoga instructor and trainer coming a few times a week. You also have a docent that comes once a week to do sound therapy, and you can learn techniques such as tapping. They have 2 doctors on staff you will have Zoom appointments with, and someone is always present to distribute morning, afternoon, and bedtime medication. You can also always grab whomever is on-call to talk through any issues or questions you have.(why not 5/5? Overall I found that there was too much down-time. I got bored and restless with that much free time and I craved more structure. Additionally I thought that the family Zoom sessions could have served as a stronger resource for loved ones)Location: 4/5Murrieta is a quiet, tranquil area, with mountain views, a lot of farmland, and very little public noise to distract you. When you do leave the house, you get to visit a small farm that is very close by to interact with horses and goats, etc. You also have an outing on Saturdays for a few hours that allows you as a group to get out of the house. The immediate area has all the basic stores and activities you would want, like target/walmart/grocery/7-11/etc as well as mini golf, bowling... You do need to decide as a group where you want to go because you have 1 chaperone and need to stay together at all times.(why not 5/5? There are 2 different houses located about 10 minutes away from each other. The Bass house advertised on the website is much nicer and larger than the Doreen house. During my time the clients staying at the Doreen house were shuttled over to the Bass house for our daily classes and sessions, not being able to utilize their own kitchen, rooms, and bathrooms during the day. I was also told by clients that the Doreen house was not as nice as the Bass House)Amenities: 4/5Pool - (I was there in the winter, so it was not heated and basically unusable, however, I did do some cold plunges just for the shock)Hot tub - available once a week on Friday eveningsYard - Large Grass Backyard and cement patio with tables and chairsGym - Available daily. TV for movies or music. Free weights, yoga mats, and a few outdated cardio machines that mostly worked.Kitchen - Large kitchen, multiple Fridges/Freezers, Huge pantry for preparing anything you want, ovens, microwave, toasters, dishwasher, outdoor gas grill, etc...Pool table, ping pong table, arts and crafts table, outdoor TV, Indoor TV, Computer, land-line house phone.Comfortable rooms and bathrooms with laundry access, and provided bedding and towels.(why not 5/5? I was disappointed that it wasn't clear that the pool and hot tub didn't have daily access as advertised, and that the gym was more outdated than described/pictured. They also could make some very inexpensive recreation investments like a basketball for their outdoor hoop, soccer ball, frisbees, croquet set, bocce, etc for their giant lawn to be used during the extensive downtime)

Ranch Creek Recovery is the best way to start your new healthy way of life. This program actually saved my life and my sanity. Their Holistic approach was amazing and I learned so much from my counselors and Dr. Dena. With only a limited number of participants in the house at one time, you are guaranteed the one on one time, as well as the group counseling they offer in a safe and comfortable setting. They make you aware that they truly care and are there to support you , listen to you, and most important to teach you. Teach you information about triggers, cognitive behavior and how to stay sober. They include therapy through others means such as Yoga, Meditation, working with Horses and even Physical Training. Ranch Creek makes sure when you leave you are good, Mind, Body and Soul. They have an excellent Intensive Outpatient Program (10) weeks that helps navigate your way back into life. A year ago (received my one year chip June 8, 2022) I was lost and a raging out of control alcoholic. I can proudly say today that I am not. I will always be an alcoholic with an addictive personality. But now I have tools, personal contacts and the faith in myself that I have never had before in my 9 years searching for sobriety. I often reflect back on my time at the Bass house. I am probably one of the few that actually stayed 60 days because I had so much to learn. My insurance did not cover all of the last days, but it was worth it to me, so I stayed. I am so grateful to so many of the staff, Jimmie, Christine, Jonathon, Dr. Dena and countless extended staff to name a few, because there were more. I would not be here to tell you it works, because without the treatment and the help I received, I alive today to tell my journey. If you are ready to face the truth, please give them a call. I promise if you are committed, you will never be the same as when you walked in. Thank you Ranch Creek Recovery.

I had long term sobriety and was under a lot of stress from my professional position. I began to use cannabis recreationally and soon became dependent. I sought recovery, because I could not stop using cannabis on my own. It was causing issues with my family and in my professional life. I signed up with Rancho Creek Recovery, through my insurance. I attended the pm IOP zoom sessions with Lorri. Her group sessions and the materials she provided, helped me to get off of cannabis. Lorri was a big help in giving me strategies to stay sober and to manage the cravings and ways to deal with my work stress. I would strongly recommend Rancho Creek Recovery's outpatient program and the pm IOP zoom sessions with Lorri. She was a great professional to work with.

I've had a few stints with rehab and none even skinned the surface of what I learned here. Located on a beautiful property in the foothills of Murrieta, with in house groups led by instructors that break it down so in depth. My perspective had a total shift and I can honestly say I owe my life and the promise of a new future to this facility and it's faculty. If you're willing to do the work this is the place to get into your core issues and help you recover from the lifestyle and vices that one is addicted to. I recommend this place to anyone who wants something different from life. DBT, CBT, recovery education, family therapy are just a few of the groups and The program director and Clinical director hand picked a team that is progressive, informed, patient, caring and passionate about what they do. I encourage anyone who's seeking treatment to look into this program I first hand watched others and had my life transformed.

Coming to Ranch Creek Recovery, I had been through three different inpatient chemical treatment facilities in CA. I was feeling lost and somewhat hopeless. The serene setting gave me peace and I began healing. The counselors were very inspiring and helped me grow in ways I haven’t experienced in years. I began to see the bigger picture that a life in sobriety can give you. Although I am somewhat scared to leave the comfort and security that Ranch Creek Recovery and staff has brought me, I am also excited to share my growth with my family and to start my new life. Thank you RCR!
